Caregiver Portal: Technical Overview (In Development)

Caregiver Portal: Technical Overview (In Development)

The Caregiver Portal is the secure, management-focused counterpart to the Senior Interface. While the senior's experience is streamlined for therapeutic engagement, this portal is designed for oversight, configuration, and safety. It serves as the "mission control" for family members or professional carers to monitor the well-being of their loved ones and customize the AI's performance.

This interface is currently under development as part of our transition to a production-grade architecture and due for pilot release in January 2026.

Feature Set & Architectural Enablers

Multi-User Senior Overview & Status Monitoring

  • Description: Provides a single dashboard to view all managed seniors (e.g., "Arthur D," "Eleanor R"). It displays real-time status, such as "Active" during a session or "Idle," allowing caregivers to quickly assess engagement levels.

  • Technical Enabler: Powered by Firestore real-time listeners that update the caregiver's UI instantly when a senior's client status changes in the database.

Quick Action – Privacy Settings

  • Description: A prominent Quick Action button grants immediate access to manage data privacy controls. Caregivers can set security classifications (e.g., RESTRICTED/PRIVATE) for predetermined memory categories, ensuring sensitive family information is handled according to their preferences. [Note: Caregivers do not have the ability to update or override a restricted classification made by the AI during a live session.]

  • Technical Enabler: This frontend control maps directly to database security rules and a custom "Data Classification" field within each user's Firestore profile, governing how the AI can access and utilize stored memories.

AI-Generated Session Summaries

  • Description: Caregivers can view or listen to concise, AI-written summaries of recent conversations, complete with generated titles (e.g., "Memories of Woolworths"). This allows caregivers to stay connected with the senior's life and mental state without reviewing hours of raw audio or transcripts. It will also be utilised for the future "Remind Me..." enhancement for seniors, in which they ask the AI to remind them of an event or past conversation.

  • Technical Enabler: A background Cloud Function triggers after each senior session, using a Gemini model to process the conversation transcript, extract key themes, and generate a coherent summary stored in Firestore.

Safety & Distress Alerts

Multi-User Senior Overview & Status Monitoring

  • Description: A dedicated "Manage Alerts" section allows caregivers to configure notifications for specific triggers, such as expressions of prolonged distress, confusion, or potential safety concerns detected during a session.

  • Technical Enabler: Real-time analysis of the conversation stream using a specialized Gemini safety classifier. When a threshold is breached, an event is triggered, sending a dula-channel push notification to the caregiver's device and email whilst logging the alert in the portal.

Contextual "Cultural Milestone" Upload (Roadmap)

  • Description: A future "Upload History" feature will allow caregivers to pre-load facts, life history documents, and relevant cultural touchstones relating to the senior (e.g., "Married in 1968," "Fan of the Beatles").

  • Technical Enabler: This data will be ingested into the "Context Database," allowing the Cohort Calculator and Prompt Injection systems to personalize the AI's questioning from the very first session.

Recent Activity Log

  • Description: A chronological audit trail of all significant system events, such as completed sessions ("Eleanor R shared a memory"), generated summaries, or safety alerts.

  • Technical Enabler: A dedicated Firestore collection that logs all system-level events with timestamps, providing a transparent and immutable record of activity for the caregiver.
